Appearing on a local YouTube Channel- TMO on Tuesday, Mirundi said Afghans are very hostile people who can cause insecurity within the country because that is their nature.

“African leaders take long to sense trouble. Where do you find a democratic country that can allow a group of Taliban into their country? Nobody would welcome a group of extremists whether they were serving America or not because they have a character of being brutal. They engage in terrorism. These are very dangerous people, they defeated the Soviet Union and they have defeated the Americans, they are not a joking matter. Now, why do you bring them here?” the veteran journalist wondered.

Mirundi added that given the laxity of Uganda’s security and the nature of Ugandans, the Afghans are going multiply into the society just like how the Somalis and South Sudanese have done thus causing trouble in the East African country.

“So in 30 years, Uganda is going to be a hive of terrorists which has not been the case. Why do we survive? Ugandan culture does not allow terrorism the Muslims we have are Sunnis, even the constitution of the Uganda Muslim Supreme council bans a Shia from becoming a Mufti of Uganda. Sunnis are moderate, therefore we are importing a different and complicated group in this country at a free cost.”

Last week, when the Taliban took over Afghanistan, desperate local people flocked at Kabul’s international airport trying to flee on departing U.S. jets however the jets could not take them all.

As a way of helping the desperate Afghans, the United States of America requested Uganda to host the refugees that are affected by the Taliban forces in Afghanistan. According to the State Minister for Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Esther Anyakun Uganda is willing to host over 2000 Afghan refugees.

(GISOs).

According to the Kisoro deputy Resident District Commissioner Dan Ndikumwami, the energetic, patriotic Ugandans had turned up but lacked all the necessary requirements for their applications to be received.

“I admire the quick response by our people to the announcement but I had no choice but to ask them to go back and work on their applications because many of them had made mistakes,” Ndikumwami explained.

The development follows government’s decision to carry out a countrywide recruitment of LDUs.

Ndikumwami told our reporter that August 23rd 2021 was the first day
of receiving applications adding that he anticipates receiving so more applications.

Fresh LDU recruitment will start with headquarters of UPDF Divisions

Those interested will be required to present duly signed letters of
recommendation from their respective LCI Chairpersons, PISOs and GISOs
and they must prove they are residents of that particular area.

]]> Minister Byamukama rallies citizens to support Uganda Airlines as national carrier prepares for long-haul flights https://www.watchdoguganda.com/news/20210824/119901/minister-byamukama-rallies-citizens-to-support-uganda-airlines-as-national-carrier-prepares-for-long-haul-flights.html Tue, 24 Aug 2021 10:51:19 +0000 https://www.watchdoguganda.com/?p=119901 The State Minister for Works and Transport Fred Byamukama has called on Ugandans to support Uganda Airlines.

The ministet made the plea on Monday while officially handing over the Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) to Uganda Airlines and Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA).

In the ceremony which was conducted within the Aircraft at Entebbe International Airport, Byamukama said that Uganda Airlines is a newly born baby that needs support from each and every Ugandan without any political discrimination.

“I want to ask Ugandans and the entire media fraternity that supporting Uganda Airlines is the only thing we need to do together as a country because if we do it, it will grow and our sisters or brothers will have jobs. As other countries have supported their National Airlines let us now do the same. Securing the AOC certificate is a great achievement which means that the Airlines’ generation of income to the country is going to increase because now we have the longer routes by the Airbus,”the Minister said.

He added that receiving the AOC is a great milestone because it signifies the continued growth of the Airline in the Ugandan Aviation industry.

The inclusion also opens Uganda’s routes across continents with the official launch route being Dubai in October 2021. Other international and long-haul routes such as London and Guangzhou will follow.

With this AOC inclusion, Uganda Airlines is now formally approved to carry Cargo and Dangerous Goods. This is of particular importance to the growth of trade and commerce in Uganda as it opens channels for the transportation of Cargo both into and out of Uganda.

The certification of the Airbus on the AOC has been a concerted effort by all Airlines’ dedicated staff members across all disciplines. Passengers will get to experience a new experience due to innovations from the Commercial and IT systems which can be seen through the Airlines’ new website and improved communications solutions across the entire network.

According to the Airlines management, the Airbus A330 is a state-of-the-art aircraft with competitive features to make travel enjoyable and comfortable. Some of the unique features on the aircraft include fully lie-flat seats for the Business class, onboard Wi-Fi access throughout the aircraft, a state-of-the-art inflight entertainment system with lots of blockbuster movies and increased legroom for all classes.

After securing the AOC certificate, the Airline will now turn its efforts to the Self Ground Handling initiatives and the Phase-in of the Uganda Airlines Approved Maintenance Organisation.

All these are intended to give the shareholders of the Airline an efficient cost-benefit for the entire investment by running all functions in-house.

The Pilots, Cabin Crew and other operational staff have undergone rigorous training to international Aviation Standards and have been vetted as applicable by the regulatory partner in the industry the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority.

The Acting Director-General of UCCA Fred Bamwesigye confirmed that acquiring an AOC certificate shows that Uganda Airline is ready for serious business. However, he noted that acquiring such certificate the Airline had to go under vigorous processes to ensure that it has reached the required standards.

“It has taken us some long time to acquire this certificate because the Airbus is a new technology and we had to ensure that we certify every step since the safety of our customers is our first priority. CAA is pleased to see that Uganda Airline is now free to compete with other national airlines.”

]]> We need compensation! Batwa task MP Kamuntu to follow up Court ruling regarding their eviction https://www.watchdoguganda.com/news/20210824/119914/we-need-compensation-batwa-task-mp-kamuntu-to-follow-up-court-ruling-regarding-their-eviction.html Tue, 24 Aug 2021 10:19:17 +0000 https://www.watchdoguganda.com/?p=119914 The Batwa Community in Rubanda District have tasked Rubanda West Member of Parliament Moses Kamuntu Mwongyera to follow up the Court ruling that ordered compensation to the Batwa as government was responsible for their suffering when they were evicted from forests in the 1990s.

In 2013, the Batwa dragged the Attorney General, Uganda Wildlife Authority, and National Forestry Authority to Court for being evicted from their ancestral areas that government later gazetted  as Echuya Central Forest Reserve, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

The Batwa were scattered in bushes and hills of Kisoro, Rubanda, and Bundibudyo districts. They were left under the mercy of None Governmental Organisations â€" NGOs that bought land and resettled them without giving them any land ownership rights.

On Thursday last week, the Constitutional Court in Kampala ruled that the government was responsible for the suffering of the Batwa after failing to compensate them for their land which was turned into central forest reserves and national parks in South Western Uganda.

A panel of five judges; Fredrick Egonda-Ntende, Elizabeth Musoke, Cheborion Barishaki, Muzamiru Kibeedi and Irene Mulyagonja unanimously ruled that the Batwa have suffered because of their eviction from their ancestral land where they were not compensated by government.

While reacting to the development, Gad Semajeri a Mutwa from Bufundi Subcounty in Rubanda District said they would not celebrate victory until they see government’s response. Semajeri said it was now the role of parliament to exert pressure on government so that the court ruling is responded to.

Ssemajeri, widely known as the lead avocate for the rights of the Batwa singled out Hon. Kamuntu explaining that the legislator had always advocated for their rights even before he was elected as the Rubanda West MP in the last election.

Seemajeri explained that since their eviction from the forests in 1992, they were subjected to severe hunger because they were originally fruit gatherers. He also said their life expectancy had reduced from 120 to 60 years due to poverty, poor health, education and acomodation services among others.

Hon. Kamuntu said the court ruling on the plight of the Batwa was long over due. He said it was inhuman for government to throw the indigenous Batwa out of their dwelling without putting in place a clear plan for their next livelihood out of the forests. He promised to follow up their compesation and resettlement up to the last office responsible.

Kamuntu said the only solution for government to avoid repeating future mistakes on the Batwa community was to consider affirmative action in which they would have representatives at all levels of political leadership, especially in parilament and Cabinet.

]]> NRM boss dies from election loss aftershock, leaves bizarre instructions for his burial https://www.watchdoguganda.com/news/20210824/119896/nrm-boss-dies-from-election-loss-aftershock-leaves-bizarre-instructions-for-his-burial.html Tue, 24 Aug 2021 08:11:36 +0000 https://www.watchdoguganda.com/?p=119896 It was a somber mood on Monday as National Resistance Movement (NRM) faithfuls thronged Buduma Village, Muwayo Town Council in Bugiri District for the final send-off of party strongman Mzee Domisiano Juma Byansi.

The deceased passed away on Saturday after months of frail health believed to have resulted from losing an election for the position of District Councillor which he had held since 2011.

Known for wearing his party colors of yellow with unmatched pride, Byansi is reported to have turned down all advice that he ditches his party in favor of the National Unity Platform which was trending in Muwayo at the time. Even when it continuously started appearing he was destined for a loss, the veteran politician would insist he would rather lose in a party whose principles he believes in than winning from where his heart didn’t belong.

As expected, March 2021 brought him a crushing defeat from which he reportedly never moved on. Sources close to the deceased told our reporter that Byansi’s health started deteriorating following the loss and never looked back since. The situation was even made worse by the sudden death of his son, a Parish Chief in Muterere SubCounty in Bugiri District about four months ago.

The two sad moments accelerated bottlenecks in the deceased’s health, amplifying his diabetic situation until his death late last week.

What however shocked the multitudes of mourners who attended his send-off was the threat of ” yellow instructions” he penned down to be religiously followed for his burial. Key among them were;

That all NRM members wear the party colors of yellow for his send-off event.

That NRM Secretary-General ( now former) Justine Kasule Lumumba should be the Chief Mourner at his burial.

That all the people to carry the casket with his body to the grave must be NRM members dressed in yellow outfits.

That all the outfits to dress his lifeless body should be yellow and,

That the flag for the NRM party should be wrapped around his casket as it’s sent underground for his final resting destination.

If not strictly observed, the late had threatened that he would refuse to be buried and his spirit would disturb the living.

Lumumba, who was out of the country on official duties was forced to address the mourners on the phone’s loudspeakers in observance of the fallen politician’s final wish.

Lumumba hailed the deceased’s spirit of consistency and sincerity belief in NRM.

She described the late as ” a rare kind” who belonged to NRM both in the day and the night. The minister challenged members of the party to emulate late Byansi in exhibiting loyalty to NRM.

Edrine Benesa, the NRM Regional Coordinator for Bukedi Sub Region under the Office of the NRM National Chairman(ONC) described Byansi as an outstanding pillar of the party whose courage, sincerity, and unwavering commitment will keep reverberating among the memories of party lovers. He also tasked the youthful party supporters to use the late as an example.

John Francis Okecho, the National General Secretary for the NRM Entrepreneurs’ League described the late as ” a true legend” whose impact will continue being felt even in death.

Byansi, an ardent NRM diehard was first elected to represent Buluguyi Sub County on the Bugiri District Council in 2011. In his first term, he was appointed Chairman of the production committee under the leadership of Hajji Azaalwa Malijan.

When Azaalwa lost the seat after a court conviction, and a by-election brought Hajji Siraje Smanya Lyavaala(RIP), Byansi was appointed Secretary Works, Production and Natural Resources. He would hold the position when he was reelected in 2016 until 2021 when he lost.

It’s already Week 5 of
Big Brother Naija, the reality TV show version of Big Brother series â€" BBN6 started on 24th and 25th July 2021 with 22 housemates who were later joined by four others in Week 2. The four additional housemates were JMK, Queen, Micheal and Kayvee who entered the house after the first eviction of the season which saw Yerrins, Niyi and Beatrice exiting the bbnaija house.

During Week 3, Arin and Princess were also evicted from the bbnaija house during the live eviction show the other Sunday.
The house went cold when Kayvee had a sudden exit on Monday morning due to his mental health problem â€" this made his fellow housemates and viewers concerned as no one expected such a sad exit. That very week housemates were asked by big brother to perform an educative drama on mental health issues. Believe me, most people can relate to this subject in one way or another. #WearewithyouKayvee.

No evictions twist
A new twist to show came when Big brother gave the housemates an eviction break but asked Head of House (HOH) Maria to prank them by convincing them that she was going to evict 2 housemates who have least impressed her during her reign. Which assignment she accomplished✅. Her fake names for housemates up for possible eviction were Jaypaul, Emmanuel, Angel, JMK,Yousef and Pere. Well done Maria…
We are now in week 5, stay tuned for the romance, fun, drama, betrayal, hypocrisy and so much more.

Follow big brother Naija on DSTV channel 198 and channel 329 on Gotv.
