  • Brody Mihocek has had just six touches today in a frustrating afternoon to be a Magpies forward. Ollie Henry likewise has had just seven disposals.

Darcy Cameron and Beau McCreery have also just had eight and nine disposals respectively. Neither player has kicked a goal playing mostly forward this afternoon.

The Bombers have their third and the margin’s back to seven points.

The Bombers transitioned from defensive 50 through the corridor and the chain ended in a mark to Peter Wright, about 45 metres out not far inside the boundary.

His set shot was dead straight. Francis has two, Wright one.

    Dogs 4.3 (27), Bombers 3.2 (20)

It’s come from the opening bounce of the second term, with Darcy Parish entering inside-50 to Francis, who was awarded a free kick.

The midfield battle will be critical for Essendon today. They’ve relied heavily on the likes of Parish and Zach Merrett this season, but up against one of the best on-ball brigades in the comp, they need to win that battle if they’re any chance to upset the Dogs.

    Dogs 4.3 (27), Bombers 2.2 (14)

Hawthorn have averaged 88.8 marks a game this season. We’re not yet at three-quarter time and they’ve already amassed 101 marks to Collingwood’s 68.

The uncontested possessions are overwhelmingly 237-161.

The inside-50s are only 31-28 in Hawthorn’s favour. Collingwood has just kicked another goal, a third major to Jack Ginnivan.

    Hawks 12.4 (76), Pies 6.4 (40)

    Western Bulldogs 3.3 (21)

    Essendon Bombers 1.2 (8)

Analysis: The Dogs are controlling this contest. They lead inside-50s 15-10, contested possessions 39-25, and uncontested possessions 76-62. The Bombers have laid 19 tackles so it’s not an effort issue but they’re beating beaten to the ball.

Leading disposals: Jack Macrae (12), Marcus Bontempelli (11), Zach Merrett (9), Tom Cutler (8), Tom Liberatore (8), Darcy Parish (8), Bailey Smith (8), Easton Wood (8)

    Clearance: Bontempelli (3), Parish (3), Macrae (3)

James Worpel has gone off the ground. It looks like he might be getting his left ankle restrapped.

Meanwhile, Jamie Elliott and Dylan Moore have both kicked goals.

Hawthorn lead by 36 and Daniel Howe has now just marked 30 metres out from goal... he comes in and kicks his second. Make that a 42-point lead.

    Hawks 11.3 (69), Pies 4.3 (27)

Jaegar O’Meara has kicked the first of the third term in the Hawks-Pies contest.

Josh Bruce has his second. The Dogs are surging against the Bombers.

They lead the inside-50s 12-3, contested possessions are 29-10, uncontested possessions are 48-29. The Dogs also lead groundball gets, 19-3.

The Bombers need to get their hands on the footy.

    Dogs 3.2 (20), Bombers 1.1 (7)

Easton Wood is leading disposals with eight and has just kicked his side’s second goal.

Bontempelli is imposing himself on this game too. Total possession is 52-26 in favour of Dogs, inside-50s are 8-3.

    Dogs 2.1 (13), Bombers 1.0 (6)

A clinical centre clearance from the Bombers results in a goal to Aaron Francis.

It was the usual suspects - Darcy Parish and Zac Merrett - getting the ball out of the centre clearance and kicking to the advantage of Francis just 10 metres out from goal.

    Dogs 1.0 (6), Bombers 1.0 (6)
